I'm getting ready to collect more evidence about a creature that has been spotted recently in the Bluffs of the Florida panhandle. From what I hear from local hiker witnesses, it is a shy mammalian animal about the size of a cat with 3 long toes on each foot. I suspect that it has adapted such long toes so it could climb the bark of pine trees, which dominate the area. Perhaps it uses its toes to eat inspects, like the Aye Aye of Madagascar. Either way, I will be finding out tomorrow if everything works out according to plan!
For my more seasoned researchers, what advice do you have to offer? I was going to make plaster casts of tracks, if I find them. Also, I will check trees for evidence of their claw marks. Perhaps some fur will be caught on the brambles and I will be able to take samples of it. I would search for possible dens it may live in, but until I know for sure whether it has a tendency towards violence, is poisonous, etc, that that may not be the wisest thing to do yet. Anything else?
